Canadian Forest Products
Situation
This customer is a leading Canadian forest products company with a workforce approaching 10,000. With plans to move head office to a prestigious building in downtown Vancouver, the company had an opportunity to review the way it conducted business and to consolidate all of their Vancouver operations into one location.
Communication was an important aspect of the business review initiatives; as such, AVW-TELAV Audio Visual Solutions was contracted to consult, design and install the audio visual presentation technology infrastructure for all their planned meeting spaces. Special attention was focused on two rooms: a 30-seat boardroom; and a 10-seat videoconferencing room. Though smaller than the boardroom, they did not want the videoconferencing room to be restricted to a single purpose – the space needed to be versatile enough for audio conferencing as well as presentations and meeting collaboration.
Solution
Extensive use of wood was a natural design choice for the new boardroom. AVW-TELAV was mindful to avoid spoiling the impact of the room’s impressive wood details and finishes with all manner of metallic technology. The presentation technology elements needed to be concealed when not in use. This was achieved by using a motorized projector lift and screen, custom manufactured table input monuments and a concealed rack system on access tracks to allow service access when required.
The videoconferencing room featured two large LG plasma screens to display virtually any video or computer signal input and to give the room a high tech appearance.
AVW-TELAV installed wireless touch panel controllers in each room, allowing for control of the equipment from anywhere within the room. Custom programming of a single icon-based control interface provided users a straightforward, one-touch control system, intuitive for all users.
Electronic whiteboarding functionality was deemed an important tool to be used in smaller meeting rooms in the new offices. Egan Teamboards were installed in six rooms allowing users to brainstorm ideas, take notes on the whiteboard and then save the image electronically for all participants to receive within minutes of the meeting’s conclusion.
Entertaining was also important to our customer, so 16th-floor meeting rooms were designed to open into a foyer area, providing a large open space for social functions. AVW-TELAV installed a simple audio system with CD player and radio microphone offering speech and background music capabilities.
Plasma screens were mounted portrait-style in the reception area to display information about the company. A remote PC connected to the plasma screen allowed our customer to create custom content for the display.
