"Faster, Less Expensive, and Better…" Just a dream?

Situation

Intuit had an ambitious dream. As the leading developer of e-finance software solutions for personal and small business applications, Intuit’s vision for its new Mississauga campus was to create an all-encompassing, thought-stimulating work atmosphere for its employees to congregate, exercise their minds, and encourage their creative juices to flow. In bringing this dream to fruition, Intuit had some strict requirements, deadlines, and budgets.  To achieve all three, AVW-TELAV presented a proposal, and was subsequently awarded the deal, to undertake an all-inclusive contract to design, build, and manage the project. And, what a project it was!

Solution

This state-of-the-art facility incorporated more than a dozen different rooms including:

Telepresence room/ HD Studio- This is an immersive videoconferencing room built to exacting standards, as defined by Intuit, to ensure all HD Studios throughout the Intuit organization are identical for users and viewers alike.

Games room- With a 65”LCD TV and the ability to connect videogame consoles and CD/DVD players, this room is used for individual work group collaborations and group activities.

Conference rooms- There are three conference rooms, one of which is capable of videoconferencing, which function as general-purpose presentation and conferencing spaces. They are all designed to support projection from computer sources and are all capable of audio conferencing.

Interview rooms (2)- While the Subject room is used for interviewing, product testing, etc., the Reaction room is used to view and record activity in the Subject room. Both rooms are linked by audio and video.

Scrum rooms (2)- The scrum rooms are multipurpose spaces for up to 15 participants collaborating locally or with multiple participants via audio conferencing. Central to these rooms’ presentation capabilities are ceiling-mounted 65” LCD displays.

Training rooms (2)- The large training room functions as a presentation and lecture space for associates, managers and guest speakers. The small computer training room functions as a training and demonstration room and allows any of the 16 student PCs to be viewed locally by the presenter, and then presented on the main screen and on each of the remaining student’s monitors if need be. The room is also designed and built to allow the addition of videoconferencing/ distance learning in the future.

Cafeteria- As the largest gathering space in the facility, this area can be used for general dining, as well as internal presentations to large groups  While addressing short term budget constraints, the room is designed to allow multi-location videoconferencing in the future facilitating multi-site, corporate-wide events, meetings, and presentations.

Fitness room- The fitness room is made up of two areas, each includes I-Pod docking stations mounted in the wall surface.  The space also includes three 32” TVs with independent satellite TV sources.  All AV is controllable from wall-mounted touch panel controllers.

Lobby- A total of three commercial-grade 42” LCD displays are mounted in the lobby and are connected to a digital signage solution.

Results

To achieve success and exceed customer expectations on a fast-track project such as this, it took a “can-do” attitude from many supporting parties. Once again, AVW-TELAV has proven the value of its design/build model in executing where more traditional models just cannot.  “Faster, Less Expensive, and Better…” You can choose all three!
