Telecom Giant

Situation

One of Canada’s telecom giants contracted AVW-TELAV to provide design/build integration services for their new flagship corporate office. The project involved permanent installation of audio visual equipment in the multi-purpose/demonstration theatre.

Designed as a facility to support internal meetings as required, the prime mandate was to provide an innovative, high-tech presentation space for our customer to present to its own customers.

Solution

The A/V solution is centered around a 61” NEC plasma screen specially fitted with a Smart Technologies Touch Overlay, providing a touch panel interface for the control system.

Videoconferencing capability was a major part of the requirements and was satisfied by installing a Tandberg 6000 MXP series videoconferencing codec. Capable of both ISDN and IP conferencing at up to three Mbps, the system included two cameras, one located above the display for audience shots, the other ceiling-mounted above the audience for capture of the presenter. The codec featured an internal multi-site bridge, side-by-side virtual dual monitor display configuration, and PC resolution input and output.

Results

The set up of the plasma screen allowed it to be used as an electronic whiteboard and also the interface for complete room control. All display, annotation, and control needs can now be handled from a single unit.
Currently, a permanent room PC with wireless keyboard and mouse allow for presentation and collaboration from anywhere in the room, and run the Smartboard whiteboarding and annotation capabilities. DVD/VCR, satellite, and aux video and PC inputs are all offered as potential sources.
