Disaster Management Takes Centre Stage

Situation

This customer is one of the oldest, largest and yet dynamic financial services organizations in the world today. Their customer base has grown for more than a century to include millions across 19 countries and territories around the world.
Our customer wanted to create a disaster management centre for global operations in the event of terrorist attack or natural catastrophe. They needed Senior Vice Presidents (and higher level executives) to maintain the ability to communicate during such an event.

Solution

The room had the fault redundancy of a command center bunker – it was put on a large UPS and even had generator backup. The rest of the installation included:

four 42" plasma screens were installed for:

  • Bloomberg financial service / PC
  • news TV (Pulse 24, CNN)
  • videoconferencing near-end / PC
  • videoconferencing far-end / DVD
  • Videoconferencing with 6 ISDN lines for multipoint conferences and redundant IP connections for backup
  • Separate audio systems for simultaneous videoconference, teleconference, TV and radio listening
  • four PC inputs at the table including integrated Bloomberg PC and keyboard
  • Satellite TV, cable TV and broadcast TV tuners with associated switching to plasmas
  • AM, FM and shortwave receivers with associated antenna systems and switched audio
  • Crestron control of all AV functions, Lutron lighting control and window shade/screen control
  • Complete AV system had to be installed in one-half the budgeted time due to contractor disputes with other trades
  • Install custom table with integrated cable management
  • Hundreds of feet of cables run through conduit in the walls, floor and ceiling
  • Control 48 individual CFL spotlights to create various lighting scenes
  • Control dedicated HVAC with Lutron/Crestron system
  • Coordination with the designer and millworker to integrate the plasmas and videoconferencing cameras into millwork
