Greater Toronto Airport Authority

Situation

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) is a not-for-profit corporation governed by representatives from the four regional municipalities, the Province of Ontario, the Federal Government and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) business and professional community.

Incorporated in 1993, The GTAA has a mandate to provide the GTA with a regional system of airports that meet the current and future demands for air services.

Mindful of their need for modernity, the governors recognized that it was time to upgrade equipment in the Executive Boardroom. There were a few challenges to consider in the renovation, including the room design, screen placement and lighting. In the original configuration, the room had the screen placed in an awkward location; when presentations were being shown on screen, people had to turn in their seats to view it. The existing projector was fixed on a lift and in time generated too many maintenance issues.

Solution

Our proposal solved the inherent issues. A new, brighter and network-manageable LCD projector was installed in the ceiling in the centre of the room. The screen was relocated to meet the real world presentation requirements. We also installed a new Crestron system to centralize control in one easy-to-use unit.

GTAA was pleased with the plans and awarded the project to AVW-TELAV.

Results

The project was within budget and completed on time, with no interruption in the day-to-day meetings held during the installation period. Post-installation training sessions were also conducted by AVW-TELAV for GTAA staff.

“The success of this project required sophisticated project management skills in conjunction with a professional and enthusiastic attitude,” said Thomas Ting, Technology Architect, GTAA. “The team was able to accommodate and deliver the project on time even with lots of GTAA restrictions.”
