Samsung on Display

Situation
Samsung Electronics Canada Inc. is the Canadian-based subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Company Ltd. of Korea, a global leader in LCD Monitors, cell phones, MP3 players, DVD players and other electronics.
Samsung’s success resulted in a growing team that could no longer be accommodated in the previous facility. With the move to a new space, they decided to take the opportunity to create a product showroom (created by world-renowned designer Bruce Mau) that captures the Samsung brand experience and demonstrates how their products combine the best of technology with the best of design.

Solution
AVW-TELAV’s System Design and Integration (SDI) division in Toronto, Ontario, assisted in the technical design of the display area, but our most obvious achievement was the lobby just outside the showroom.
The focus of the lobby centred on the installation of five large video screens. These 46” LCD monitors (the largest I.T. monitor in the world) created a video wall that will run a video presentation describing Samsung’s road to success.
The original plan for playback equipment called for installing Electrosonic Digital players (each equipped with an independent hard drive) in the ceiling, but our team, after reviewing the site, realized this would mean an ongoing inconvenience when it came time to upload new files. Instead we routed the connections to the monitors directly to a custom-built rack in a dedicated dust-free room. This setup also ensured compliance with building code.
Results
“AVW-TELAV was able to come to the project with very little notice -- just a few days before launch -- and manage the video wall project for us,” said Angela Schwecke, Samsung Canada’s Corporate Marketing Manager. “This included installation of the monitors and the Electrosonic Genloc system required to run the custom-made introduction video. The team was extremely knowledgeable and responsive and kept their friendly attitude in the face of a pressure-cooker, count-down environment. We plan to work with AVW-TELAV again.”
